Quantitative Aptitude Section

While preparing the merit list of SSC CGL exam, Quantitative Aptitude section is considered to be one of the deciding areas for a candidate. Hence, the candidates are required to clear the basic concepts and formulas of Mathematics. It will strengthen your prospects as around 48% of questions are asked from Mathematics.

The next scoring section is Data Interpretation which covers 20% of the exam. The candidates should lay emphasis on concept of Ratios and Percentages. The topics of Geometry & Mensuration (16%), Trigonometry (16%) and Algebra (8%) should also be conceptually prepared. 

Effective Strategy to prepare Quantitative Aptitude Section
  1. The candidates should work on the basics of all the topics and try to acquire complete knowledge with full understanding. You should not look out for shortcuts for solving questions.
  2. The time management skills should be polished and you should not devote more than one minute to solve any question. The students should devote extra time to important topics and work hard on weak areas. Do practice hard on them and work hard in improvising your speed of answering questions.
  3. The candidates should work hard on increasing calculation speed and so they have to focus on short-cut methods and tricks. It will work as time-saving tactics and will help solving maximum accurate questions in lesser time. You should try to learn and remember tables, squares, cubes, cube roots etc.
  4. You should be well-versed with short-cuts and should not try wild guessing. It will lead to negative marking and can ruin your prospects of qualifying , also you can read or get knowledge through SSC Course given to you.
Effective Strategy to prepare English Language Section

In this section, the questions are asked to test candidate’s knowledge and understanding of English Language. The candidates are supposed to have good command over English Grammar Rules and Vocabulary usage along with good Comprehension skills to score well in this section. The past experiences of previous year papers suggest that Vocabulary usage is the most important topic and comprises 48% of questions. It is followed by Grammar usage (32%) and Reading Comprehension (20%) in SSC CGL Tier-I exam.
  1. The candidates should develop habit of reading English literature in the form of daily Newspapers, books, novels etc. It will enhance your word power, grammar skills and sentence arrangement. You should make a list of typical and important words with their synonyms and antonyms.
  2. The students should master English Grammar Rules by developing understanding of every concept and practicing it hard. It will help you in solving questions from spotting the errors, Cloze Test, sentence arrangement etc. You should follow standard textbooks to learn Grammar rules and learn it thoroughly.
  3. To crack questions from Reading Comprehension section, the candidates should develop good reading skills by developing habit or reading daily. You should try to read articles, stories, and blogs and try to understand the theme, idea and gist of it. It will enhance your understanding level to great extent.
Effective strategy to prepare General Intelligence and Reasoning Section

The candidate’s ability to think and problem solving skills are tested in this section. The asked questions are primarily brain teasers and are tricky in nature.

In this section, questions from Verbal Reasoning section constitute 66% while the rest of 34% are from Non Verbal Reasoning. The main topics of Verbal Reasoning are Series, Ranks, Direction, Arrangement, Coding, Decoding, Analogy and Classification/Odd Pair, Syllogism and Statement Conclusion. The major topics of Non Verbal Reasoning are Figure Formation, Dice, Triangle, Rule Detection, Images, Completion of Pattern, Mirror Images, Figure Matrix and Paper Folding, etc.
  1. The student’s should sharpen their logical and analytical skills. The understanding of Directions should be understood properly.
  2. Take one topic at one time and don’t confuse yourself by learning 2 to 3 topics in one go. Don’t make unnecessary assumptions in solving questions and use smart tricks and methods for solving.
Effective strategy to prepare General Awareness (GA) and General Knowledge (GK) Section

This section primarily aims in testing candidate’s general awareness and knowledge of current affairs in world and India. It is most scoring section of all where General Science constitute 40% of questions followed by Static GK (40%), Current Affairs (10%) and miscellaneous topics (10%). 

Do refer to standard books for Static GK and make a list of important current affairs and event. You should be well versed with important places, vents, and persons etc which have made headlines in last one year.
